Though the category of truth is hardly acceptable to the very notion of elections, we do have a hope that we may speak about the problem at least in terms of the children’s assumption of it. Lets’ imagine how an average child sees everything around including grown-up problems and elections.
Two huge groups of inveterate opponents continue the long-history struggle for their place in the world. The Democratic and the Republican parties remain the most crucial opponents. This is the fight between their ambitions which will determine the outcome of the elections of 2008. Our imagined child will most likely wonder why the doings remain the same from year to year and the change in this ever-lasting tradition is hardly foreseen.
It would be obvious for the child that the most prominent people (who always say lots of wisdom on TV) from the Democratic Party are Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, John Edwards and John Kerry. The child is really impressed by the frequency of these people’s appearance on TV and the promises they give. “I wish I could vote”, a kid might say.
As for the Republican Party the most noticeable for the child are Rudi Jiulini, John McCain, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and George Pataki. What will impress a child the most is that there are no longer George Bush and Dick Cheney on the political arena. The former can’t be elected for the third term and the latter has simply finished his political career.
It is evident even for the child that the both parties do not present a cohesive unity. Each of them is a constellation of opposing splinter groups. How can the country benefit from it?
The child may also get excited by the strange word it may hear on TV: Iraq. What is Iraq and what is so peculiar about it? The truth is that no candidate presents a certain scheme of finding a way out of the existing situation. There’s no concrete plan of solving the Iraq’s problem that may satisfy all the voters. Consequently, the candidates have an urgent task to accomplish while seeking presidency.
When the child addresses the parents they fail to explain the difference between the two parties. The values have changed over the past years. Families nowadays don’t care about the military forces of the country; they are more concerned about the general well-being of the USA disregarding the power of nukes. Mothers are less interested in the traditional values preferring careers to families; religion is now losing its place within the humans’ hearts. This all contributes to the general decay of the Republican Party. Though, the candidates from the opposing party do not feel the necessary support either.
Time will show. We hope parents will find answers to their children’s questions. The main task for them is not to be mislead once more by the election pledges and make the right choice which they will reasonably explain to their children.
Though such a childish grin concerning elections may be appropriate for the article only – not for the real life affairs, still it has some power to make the authorities think over the far-reaching consequences their politics may have and improve their actions for the benefit of the whole nation and the children in particular. Let us hear the children at least once and the results won’t keep them waiting!
