| Whoa - WHAT??? Quote: |
"Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president," the McCain campaign asserted in a statement. "Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today."
| What, her whole two years in office and suddenly she's "ready to be president"?!??!? Quote:
In a pitch to women, she cited the performance of Democrats Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, who ran as Walter Mondale's vice presidential candidate, and Sen. Hillary Clinton "who showed such determination and grace in her presidential campaign."
Using Clinton's reference about having created 18 million cracks in the political glass ceiling, Palin said, "The women of America aren't finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all."
| Maybe it's because I don't have a party alliance, but personally I feel more than a little offended at the inference that "you should support me because I'm a woman". Hello - qualifications first, gender second, thank you.
I want the best person for the jobto get the job. I'm not interested in Eelction Through Affirmative Action. That goes for Obama's race and Palin's gender.
I can appreciate what I've read of her ethical stances and "hard nosed style" but I think McCain may have shot himself in the foot with this one.

A significant part of Palin's base of support lies among social and Christian conservatives. Her positions on social issues emerged slowly during the campaign: on abortion (should be banned for anything other than saving the life of the mother), stem cell research (opposed), physician-assisted suicide (opposed), creationism (should be discussed in schools), state health benefits for same-sex partners (opposed, and supports a constitutional amendment to bar them).

There's a whole bunch of things I could say here... So I'll just settle for "I agree."
Is it November yet?

Responding to a question after his hurricane-related remarks, McCain made a ringing defense of Palin, who Democrats argue has less experience than their presidential candidate, Barack Obama.
"I thin Sen. Obama, if they want to do down that route, in all candor, she has far, far more experience than Sen. Obama does," McCain said.
He cited Palin's stint as governor of a "state that produces 20 percent of America's energy" as well as her previous membership in the PTA and her time spent on the city council and in the mayor's office in Wasilla,a town of fewer than 7,000 people outside Anchorage.
| PTA member as "qualification for the second-highest office in the United States"???? What has McCain been smoking? Quote: |
By contrast, he said Obama "was a community organizer when she was in elected office. He was in the state Senate and voted 130 times present. He never took on his party on anything. She took on a party and the old bulls and the old boy network and she succeeded."
| Pssstttt... John... at least Obama was in the state Senate...
::sighs, shaking head::
Is it November yet?

| Will her gender sway women to Palin? - CNN.com Quote:
But some of the most ardent Clinton supporters --- even those still loath to vote for Sen. Barack Obama -- found McCain's choice of Palin patronizing.
"Well, first were just laughing. I mean laughing not in the sense of 'Oh my God, what has he done?' but "Does he think that's really going to work?'" Allida Black, a Clinton supporter for Obama, said.
"I mean does he think that women voters who are with Hillary is some Lego block ... you can take out a red one and put in a green one?"
| I'm glad I'm not the only woman who had this reaction.

Well, they say she's a maverick...
