What is hard line about saying our's is the only true church? The only church that Jesus was married to?

Is that not only the lowest common denominator of ALL christian churches and indeed the reason there are so many sects, cults, and denominations of Christianity - is that each believes theirs is the one true path to salvation? To admit otherwise would be to admit that salvation can come in many forms and from many varied believes - which then implies that the need for an organized church is irrelevant.

Where one church may use the unforgiving, intolerant god of the old testament to drive home the point of a revengeful god, another may tend to use the preaching and teaching of jesus as an example of a forgiving and tolerant human/god.

Even in christianity there is little agreement on what is the truth and what is chafe.

Seems to me the pope is making the proclamation for self preservation.
As we know that so many churches in the world, we all worship at a church that WE are comfortable with. Now, I worship at an Episcopal Church. So we have a presiding bishop, Kathyrn Schoari. She may be controversial in her own right, but of she is far less controversial than Pope Benedict himself.

We have baptist churches, sects, and cults, as you mentioned. I once tried going to a baptist church, and I did not like it one bit. Where I worship now, I am very comfortable with.

That being said, we have heard it say that Jesus was a Jew, aka King of the Jews. So there are Jewish Temples.

Henry the 8th formed his own church, the Anglican Church, when he did not agree with the Catholic Church's strict rules of marriage.

I think Pope Benedict needs to simmer down a bit. Some label him as a Nazi pope. It was surprising that he got chosen to be a pope. How can one not be? The press figured that the new pope would be a man about the same age as Pope John Paul II when he got elected in the late 1970's.

He was very much an inspiration to me. All I can do is shrug my shoulders whenever Pope Benedict has something controversial to say.

After the fact I heard that Benedict was chosen because there was no one of the charisma of Paul II. This apparent gap needed to be filled until a cardinal of greater charisma rose from the ranks.

So, by this line of thinking, Benedict was chosen because he was old and could hold the post for a brief time until a more suitable replacement was groomed.

Who knows why I follow this stuff - just interesting sometimes I guess.

I had more time to review Strang's review of Pope Benedict's statement that the Catholic Church is the only true church in the world. That stunned me even more.

So I guess that the Episcopal/Anglican church, formed by Henry VIII when he disagreed with whatever Pope there was on marriage, is not a true church? Jesus did not declare himself to be Catholic, even though the area he lived in was ruled by the Romans.

Pope Benedict Arnold spoke like if he were a Nazi, who felt that they, under Hitler, should rule the entire world. I can't think of any Pope that is more controversial than Pope Benedict Arnold himself.

The Cardinals should have been more careful with their selections of a new Pope, to replace the late-Karol Józef Wojtyła, the Pope I feel that made a difference in my life.
