Wait.

You say you don't understand how these people can love their children, how the woman must spend all of her time on her back, that their ways are archaic. I say 'don't judge unless you've walked in their shoes' (as I can say as the youngest of 7 and having 5 children myself) and you say I'm judging you?

There is a huge difference between 5 (a large, but normal number) and 16!!! 5 is nothing compared to 16! You are practically a virgin compared to this woman...

As for taking less than an hour to inseminate a woman, that may be true if they are both super fertile, but I suspect most people have to try a few times, plus think of the time spent sleeping, and giving birth, and laying down due to pains from bein pregnant... She's spent a ridiculous amount of time on her back.

And I stand by my statement, that you cannot possibly give each of 16 children the attention they deserve. My mother had 9 brothers and 7 sisters. I have discussed this with her and she agrees with me...

I had a Catholic family like that across the street when I was younger.

Not using birth control of some sort is SOOOOOO stupid in my opinion. Another example of how religion pollutes the mind.
--- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope ---

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

And what you don't know about a large family is a lot. Don't judge unless you've been in those shoes. I've seen only children neglected more then children of large families.

You seem to be awfully judgemental.
In big families like that the children take care of each other (under the guidance of the parents of course). I read some on their website and each children is assigned a younger child (or two) to see after. Their chores and responsibilities are spelled out. In the case of this family, I think the children are doing just fine.

You are right, even an only child can be neglected.

If this was a case where the parents couldn't take the responsibility, or have the financial resourses, to care for such a brood, then it would be a different issue entirely.

Don't you think each family should be judged differently? Your mother's family dynamics are most likely WAY different then this family.

What seems to be your problem with them? Are they hurting you? Are their children neglected? Are they asking for government handouts? Are they on welfare?

While I myself wouldn't want that many children I certainly don't hold it against someone that does as long as their children are well taken care of. These children obviously are.

It's real easy to make a family look happy and functional in a paper... I've never seen a family this large that wasn't dysfunctional. I have at least three friends who grew up with 10 or more siblings. I have one friend who has like 20 some siblings, but most of them are half siblings... I'd bet money more than a few of these 16 will wind up somehow fucked in the head.

I have no problem. I am just making conversation. I will give them much credit for not requiring government assistance. I just think it's a shame for the kids. I am not so quick to say the kids are "obviously" cared for...

Yes, and my father's family was Catholic.

My Aunt Rose had 10 kids
My Aunt Mary had 12 kids
My Uncle Eddie had 9 kids
My Aunt Helen had 11 kids
My father had 9 kids (two from his 1st marriage, 5 with my mom, two after)

Not a one of my cousins is in prison.

I've seen children of families of only 1 or 2 that were seriously fucked up. What does that prove? Jeffery Dahmer was one of 2, John Wayne Gacy was one of 3 and Ted Bundy was an only child. Charles Whitman was one of 2.
Ted Kaczinski was one of 2. Need I go on?
