Religion What is your take on religion? Do you base your thoughts in life according to your religion? Do you feel that religion should be kept out of Government and Politics?

The original post makes the assertion that God is a creation of man as he views his surroundings. Romans makes it clear that nature points to God and that He is drawing us to Him, not Him an invention of us. Both are close, but when the story of the puddle is given the assertion is that God does not exist outside of our creation. My point is that it is in mans nature to assume that he is the pinnacle of existance. From this stems false science, and false religion. This may not be clear as I am trying to do more that two things at once, please forgive and let's discuss each point.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

"Romans tells us that all of creation points to God." Bb
OK
But "Romans" is a book, authored, published, & distributed by humans, for humans. Any divinity it may have is purely speculative.

It's remotely possible, though highly unlikely (Ockham's razor) god created man.
But there simply is no disputing that man created religion, and all religious texts.

So is religion right? Or is religion wrong?

It's not that simple.

First of all, there are more than one religion. And they are distinct from one another because they differ.
So to the degree they differ, only at most one could be correct.
Quote:
"There are 600 distinct religious expressions in the city of Los Angeles alone."
L.A. Times Religion writer Larry Stammer on PBS NewsHour Dec ‘01
Therefore, even if you pick just one out of 600, your chance of guessing correctly is ~0.0016%

In the context of Pascal's Wager, I suspect those are pretty slim odds.

ps
did I get my math right?

I used a pocket calculator, and divided 1 by 600.

But w/ %, should I have moved the decimal point?

Correction invited.

Yeah, you have to multiple by 100 to get percent...which, in fact, would move the decimal point over to the right two places.

So, it would be 0.1667%.

Your math is correct (when you multiply by 100) only insofar as one of the 600 religions represented in LA is actually correct. Because religion is created by man, and therefore subject to the confines of subjective human experience, the chances of even one religion being correct about the ultimate reality of the universe is astronomically more unlikely than the figure you gave.

I think I'll take my chances with the near 99.99-repeat% chance that we just don't know what the hell is going on in terms of ultimate truth (or if there even is an 'ultimate truth').
