Religion What is your take on religion? Do you base your thoughts in life according to your religion? Do you feel that religion should be kept out of Government and Politics?

I'm a little confused. Are you trying to tell me that my teachers DIDN'T teach hell fire when I was a child? Because they most certainly did.

Or are you saying that they can't do that now, in this country? Which is a moot point since they can't teach religion at all.

When I look at the social issues supported by those who condemn most religions, I'm not sure a total absence of religion in school is all that great an idea either.

Did you attend a state school in England or a private, church school?

I think I can guess.

Either way it sounds like your teacher went overboard but it's hardly a reason to become paranoid about the teaching of religion in general.

Many of the same people that condemn religion at face value are the same ones that support homosexuality as "normal", abortion, relaxed sexual morality in general, and in some cases go out of their way to denigrate those that support the nuclear family.

That is the crux of the matter.

How can we prohibit the teaching of religious doctrine yet encourage the teaching of secular doctrine?

See what happens when a society tries to abandon the religious foundation of its infrastructure, only to replace it with the quicksand of moral relativism?

True separation of Church and state inevitably results in the subordination of religious doctrine to secular.

I have no problem with schools teaching older students comparative religion as long as all religions are given a fair shake, and NONE of them are taught as the 'Right' religion.

To be honest, I don't trust a religious fanatic teacher, regardless of which religion he/she follows, to do that.

Your basic public school.

I think I can guess.

Well that's the problem with teachers. They're human.

I had a high school history teacher who insisted that Mary Tudor was known as "Mary, Queen of Scots". She absolutely refused, complete with the threat of having me suspended for arguing, to accept that she was wrong.

If a high school teacher can do that, what is to protect an impressionable child from having his teachers religion forced down his throat as 'correct'?

But what does that have to do with religion in schools?

I don't recall ever having any teachers talking about religion in public school.

There are teachers though that will attempt to shove their own warped precepts down childrens throats. I believe when this happens they should be promptly fired.

My own son has a learning disability. A teacher would yell at him and degrade him telling him each day how stupid and retarded he was. People wondered why upon a drunken rage at 14 he stole the woman's car and totaled it.

He paid dearly for that misguided action that was led by an older 17 year old. My son paid the price and the 17 went scot free because my son did not belong to what they percieve as the proper religion.

Are children persecuted in school because of certain religions or different religion preferences? Absolutely. Which religion has control in your community or your school?

Faith should be taught at home or in faith based schools. Public schools on the other hand could study the histories of religion once children are old enough to grasp the concepts of what the difference of faith and organized religion are.
