I guess that is one reason that while I did not discount the oppression of the Muslim religion, I brought a comparison to Christianity into focus. Christianity is not only oppressive but opportunistic, though as your post demonstrates.

OhDear
My post had NOTHING to do with my Christianity. Maybe I shouldnt have taken a shot at Trist like that, but it makes me sick to hear a man defend such action. Especialy a man. I dont consider anyone who would defend this a "friend". Christianity isnt oppressive. At least I know I havent been oppressed. Not that this should have anything to do with this thread.

Nope. I've been human 9 years longer than my wife.
And my son has only been human for 3 years now.

hahahaha... yeah i know it does offend the intellect to think that only men can "discipline" their wives. But as he said in the clip, women discipline their husbands using a variety of other means.

By "discipline" it is meant that one party draws his/her boundaries before the other.

Anyhow what's important to note about the whole conversation is that he is not encouraging corporal "discipline" but rather giving many reasons for RESTRAINT. This man ( in spite of his "fundo" getup ) has abviously found the excessive corporal punishment meted out to women to be too much.

It just goes to show that verses fromt he Quran can be viewed, understood and implemented in extreme and moderate manners.

What he has counselled is actually the ABSENCE of violence. He takes a verse by which many muslim men have justified spousal violence and goes on to show how the actionin itself is not supposed to be more than symbolic. That progress btw.. and i hope y'all can view it as such.

Oh, please.

Christianity isn't opressive? Shall we look to see what the Catholic church's stand is on birth control?

And, how nice that you haven't been oppressed. Welcome to 21st Century America.

And what, precisely, has that got to do with anything?

If you remember correctly, women have only been allowed to VOTE and be citizens in this country for 87 years. And the oppression of women was based mostly on religious teachings.

Why do you think Mary Magdelene was labeled a prostitute for a thousand plus years?

Okay, fine, but my husband doesn't 'draw boundaries' on me, either. I am a free-thinking human being and I have as much right to do as I please as he does.
