If you remember correctly, women have only been allowed to VOTE and be citizens in this country for 87 years. And the oppression of women was based mostly on religious teachings.

Why do you think Mary Magdelene was labeled a prostitute for a thousand plus years?

What do you mean what does it have to do with anything? It has to do with EVERYTHING. Just cause one practices a religion thats not as old as Christianity, doesnt give them a excuse to be barbarians.

I thought this country wasnt made on Christian teachings? How could our goverment allow such a thing based on religion?

Maybe Mary was a prostitute, no one really knows for sure.

hehehehe... just to add to the fray i would like to add that several MUSLIM nations have had WOMEN as heads of state ( Pakistan & Bangladesh to name but two )

Aint never heard of no Madam President though

I should also like to point out that ISLAM was the FIRST of the abrahamic religions to incorporate a woman's right to heredity into its theology.

The chauvinist culture that is indigenous in many muslim nations is a cultural thing, not sanctioned by the Quran. And as this particular clip also show, there are strict limits to when and/or how a man works things out with his wife. THese "beatings" are only allowed when ALL OTHER AVENUES ARE EXHAUSTED, and even then they are NOT meant to cause pain, but rather to put across the severity of the situation in a symbolic fashion.

Let's not forget that many non-muslims also resort to spousal violence and that beating your wife is STILL faaaar too common in developed nations and was an accepted norm only a few decades ago even in the US.

Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

What exactly does the Koran have to say on the subject H?

Well it is a simple function of two people living together that you each let the other know what's ok and what's not. And sometimes it doesn't get across until you do something drastic. That could mean screaming or shouting or even breaking his golf trophy. ALL sorts of ways exist by which a man or a woman can get across their frustration with their partner.

But the IMPORTANT part is that it should not have lasting physical effects and it should not have the purpose of causing pain.

Agreed.
My wife grew up with 4 brothers who could not hit her back. My mother taught me that any one who can pass a lick, is big enough to get hit back. She was in for a rude awakening one day when she hit me in anger and I jacked her miniscule ass up and bodyslammed her on the bed.
Problem solved.

I know some Christians that I respect and admire. And everything THEY do has to do with their Christianity.

If you have aspects of your life that are divorced from your Christianity, then IMO, you are not a Christian.

Based on what I have seen of your attitudes on this board, I really don't want to know you.

See, this just goes to prove how truly uneducated you are in regards to the religion you claim you love so much.
