So the technique proposed by the muslim cleric is:

1. Admonish her up to 10 times (btw this usually works with catus)

2. Send her to Coventry i.e. stop talking to her (this has been very effective with knotty)

3. Beat her with a toothpick somewhere where it won't show

You should ask around a few of your Iraqi co-workers and get their feedback

Honestly guys.. in the context of which this dude was speaking, he was clearly exhorting muslims to be patient and non-violent.

It's sort of like the newspaper trick with dogs. It's not like the newspaper actually hurts the dog. It's a symbolic action that expresses that a limit has been reached.

Of course i do not mean to compare women to dogs at all. The point is that in the way he explained the allowance the quran makes for husbands disciplining their wives, the allowance is there to give men another avenue to expression. It does not imply that women can only be disciplined by corporal punishment, but instead the opposite. Just as the silent treatment and the physical distance are ways of expressing dissatisfaction, so too the "beatings" must NOT take any other form than as a symbolic expression.

His primary problem is using the quran as his moral compass in the first place.

First let me say, I am a believer. And a Christian. Though many who are claiming the same would disown me as a sister...

Still the fact remains, I am. And yet, I do wonder Pen, when you say the primary problem is using the Quaran as his moral compass, do you suppose the Bible is better?

Here is a blog that dileneates the worth of a woman as a comparative study in both the Quaran and The Bible..horse a piece if you ask me.

The BLOG

My son who is just barely fifteen is at this time in his life claiming atheism. He has such very high standards and his values show respect for all. I am very proud of him. And I am glad that he has these values without finding them in religious attachment. This way they are truly his and no matter what faith may come to him, if any, he will not base his morality on zeal and become desensitized to humanity in a selfish pursuit of an unseen entity.

Here is what I dont get. If I posted something about Christian men beating there women, I'd bet anything we wouldnt be hearing from anyone at all about the Koran or Islam. Yet if there is any criticisim tward Islam the first thing people do is compare it to Christianity. Jesus tells men to love there wife's as Christ loves the church. I for one wanted to puke after I saw that vidieo.

And HK, dont even give me that crap, cause he also said dont hit her where people can see the marks.

The Koran calls for the killing of all infidels. It is a myth that Islam is a religion of peace.

Well religion, any religion other than pagan worship, seems to be based on a false notion of male supremacy.

Yes, Grace, men ought to love their wives as Christ loves the church.

I hope someday to know a man who will love me with the true concern for my well-being that I believe Jesus has for my heart.

I do not fault the Bible per se or and especially Jesus, but the religion of Christianity in too many places...is about oppression.
