The founding fathers were not all religious, but they were all mostly liberals. It was an extremely liberal idea to secede from the Crown. The Bill of Rights was the most liberal of all ideas enshrined in our Constitution. It took a while to hammer it all out. There were competing versions. There were a few people opposed to adding a Bill of Rights. They lost.

Debate, when not rushed or inhibited is what will serve us well. This I believe. It is why I hate campaign by sound bite. It serves not the public good. (am I really writing this bs in this style? lol)

It seems even after you posted this some of our members continue to be ignorant of this fact.

This myth, among others, dishonestly perpetuated in an attempt to smear atheists and the image of the AA seems to continue even after 25 years, and even after Madalyn Murray O'Hair and her children were brutally murdered and dismembered well over 10 years ago. Such a perpetuation probably owes itself to the acceptability of anti-atheist sentiment, and the tradition of accepting as "truth" lies and superstition from authority without any inquiry among the religious.

Allow us to remind you for the third time, this 'petition' is an urban legend.

Urban Legend Zeitgeist: Madalyn Murray O'Hair and Petition 2493

Ah an urgan legend! Whew!!

However Kat, there is a virulent strain of disbelief that does call for an end to all religion and is fundamental in its tactics.

And those infidels do more good to religions than many religions. Everyone gets stronger, builds up their arsenal when there is a perceived enemy.

I think I keep current on legislations and I remember this from a few years back from the FOF groupies and I automatically go to snopes.com when I hear of stuff like this.

But let us not apply a falsehood as an example. No atheist in their right mind, even the most advocate of us, would support the unconscionable idea of banning free thought and religion from the air waves.

I consider myself opposed to the institutionalization of irrationalities and assault on reason that is religion inasmuch as to consider people of the likes of Christopher Hitchens or Richard Dawkins as brilliant allies, but even they, and concurrently I, do not wish to see the abridgment of free thought, religion, and the practice thereof only insofar as those religious institutions stay out of the state and do not attempt to dictate their believes unto others unfairly and forcibly through public (not necessarily private) medium.

On the contrary I support the proposal by Daniel Dennett to, along side reading, writing, and arithmetic, require the academic study of all the world's religions in our public schools.

That is debatable. We've seen an increase in atheism and agnosticism since the ardent efforts of authors such as Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, etc. reached the ranking positions of multiple major top-seller's lists.

Whilst that may be factual and come with stats to prove it...I would say that those who are turning to atheism were already NOT believing. Fencesitters, agnostics and those who were not already giving much thought to a belief system at all were the most impacted.

But you won't find so many converts in fundamental religions simply because of some of the media attention to atheism provided by Dawkins, Harris, etc. In fact, within their ranks, hardly any would have dared to even read any of the literature provided by the aforementioned infidels.

Kat, can I call you kat?

Kat, I asked a question. I did not sign up for a lecture. Can I see your credentials? My signature?

I see where you define yourself as very liberal. Is your style what you think being very liberal represents?
