So I suggest to you, don't try doing that.

If you can't respond to Kat one-on-one, then don't respond to him period if he upsets you that much. There is an ignore feature and my best advice to you is use it.

But DON'T try to drag others into it by suggesting doing a poll of who likes who more...Because past experience has shown that the person suggesting such actions, doesn't do as well as they think they will when playing that kind of pi**ing game on this board.

YOU dragged people in with that comment. So don't gripe now that someone did respond to your suggestion, just cause you don't like the answer. And by suggesting such in your response it was YOU, not me, who took this discussion off topic as well.

From the sound of your earlier posts, you seem a likeable guy and have alot to contribute to the site...Just as Kat has alot he offers to the site and discussions as well...Don't blow it all the heck now by trying to instigate a board war.

Not necessarily as it is on public land. I think it would be different if the religious symbol was used in some secular connotation or if it represented a single individual. Instead this memorial makes a kind of establishment of religion, by attempting to symbolize an entire nation's involvement in a war with a symbol from a particular religion. Thus, this or the 10 Commandments outside a courthouse is unconstitutional, but no one's contending the 'little crosses' on headstones in Arlington National Cemetery.

Being atheist merely means you don't have a belief in god. There are many 'atheists' that believe in the afterlife.

But alluding to 'scientific atheists' or 'secular atheists' (to which I subscribe), I think saying we 'have no hope' in an afterlife is kind of misleading. It presupposes in a way that eternal life is better than finite life on Earth. Most atheists I know don't have 'hope' in an afterlife inasmuch as they 'don't have hope' in a life before this one. I didn't mind not existing before I was born, and I have a feeling that I won't be around to care once I'm dead.

That said, I think you can be artistic (perhaps even far more meaningful) in the creation of memorials in a secular context, rather than having to find refuge in the supernatural or hope in the afterlife.

Luckily (or UNluckily) I threw my back out...So I can't spank the person(s) responsible for opening that Pandora's Box.

I'm glad us Brits have the freedom not to worry about this kind of bickering - so far at least.

So you think an apt inscription on the headstone of an atheist might be:

THE END

or maybe

NOT To Be Continued

I'm glad us Americans have the freedom of religion, as well as the secular declaration of a separation of church and state. You may not have to put up with the bickering, but you have to put up with the Church of England.

I think an inscription on the headstone of an atheist would attest to the life of the individual, and not worry about what comes after that.

BINGO!

Their headstones would say something similar to: Beloved spouse, parent, friend, etc...

It's possible for both to co-exist.

Britain has millions of non-Christians and is home to the largest Mosque and the largest Hindhu Temple in Europe.

For creativity I like this inscription:

Here lies the body of Les More
Killed by six bullets from a Colt 44
No Les
No More
