Not all Quakers adhere to the strictest interpretations of plain-ness of dress. It's merely another human act of submission but is not required of faith.

When it comes the Bible, I think that it is a book that is inspired by God but I don't think that it is the ultimate Word of God. Hopefully that makes sense as it becomes difficult to explain... I think that study of the Bible IN CONCERT with the continuing revelation (prayer/meditation/reflection) brings to the individual the true understanding of God and His wishes. I think that the Bible is in part a test. Blind faith or reasoned obedience and true faith? Not that I criticize my Christian brothers and sisters as it's terribly frightening to move beyond blind obedience into true faith or in better terms an active personal relationship with God.

I really dont know if that has anything to do with it PN. I have always heard that the soul reason we used that day was to help the pagans switch over to Christianity smoothly. Interesting question though.

I think anyone who believes, but hasnt seen, has moved into true faith.

You are absolutely correct. I should have phrased my argument better. I apologize. I should have said blind obedience is not faith. There is a difference between the two. There are those that can read the Bible and follow every last edict, but never have faith.

I've heard this before, including from the Bible.

"Truly I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter: but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin: because they say, ‘He has an unclean spirit’. (Book of Mark 3:28-29)

He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. "
(Book of Matthew 12:30-32)

It truly is a ghastly set of tyrannical dogmas to consider an unforgivable sin, let alone one that is essentially dissent against a ruthless tyrant (God). It is especially ghastly to think that, in an expression of Christian doctrine (not a perversion), people like me (infidels) should be put to death, as in some way they are committing a sin greater than murder. As if that were not enough, infidels have no ability to redeem themselves; one small mental doubt in one's mind about the existence of the holy spirit is a ticket straight to hell and eternal suffering; it is unforgivable.

And to think Christians say their dogma isn't 'forced' onto others.

Isn't today Sunday? Shouldn't you be in church begging for forgiveness for all your sins?

I would have disagreed with you, up till I saw the confessions of mother terisa(sp?). After seeing that, I think you have a point.

Your unforgivable sin is implying that I'm not funny and overpaid to be working in Iraq.
