They changed the law in 2005. The bill was introduced specifically to target the FLDS. The legislator said it when he introduced it.
They don't live outside their compound. The consent age works for their society. Nor does it appear to be mandatory to live polygamously or get married at 13 since not all of the girls had kids.

No matter how much the FLDS would like to create their own world, they are a part of the rest of the world. By isolating their children and only preparing them to live in that isolation, they are virtually imprisoning them. The children are not prepared to live in the real world economically or socially, so they can't leave. If you look at how the children are reared and educated, you cannot say, "They should just leave, and if they don't leave, they are happy." A young woman of 18 or 19 who already has several children and no valid education CANNOT just pick up and leave. No matter what reason the legislator gave when he introduced the bill to change the legal marriage age, it was a good thing since pregnancy for early teens is high risk. NO young teen should be pregnant, their bodies aren't ready for it.
The greatest danger to liberty lurks in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding.

But many are. You are the Queen of statistics, you know pregnancy numbers grow exponentially from 13 and up. The FACTS indicate not ALL of the girls had "multiple" kids at young ages. You are just reciting the allegations but not looking at what is factual.

And they DO create their own world. They DON'T live with the rest of us. They live in as much as isolated lifestyle as Eskimos, another culture that might not be able to survive in New York City but do just fine in the society that they grow up in.

The children are reared and educated in the way that their parents want them to be. If you are going to take these kids from these parents, you might as well take all poor parents and single parents kids away because statistically, these kids do worse than other kids. And young mothers and multiple kids are the scourge of poor segment of the population. In the case of the FLDS they have created a lifestyle that I may not disagree with, but changing the laws specifically when they move in is the pure definition of persecution.

As has been discussed in another thread, you just can't up and decide you want to stop being poor either. Especially if that's all you know.

The problem with FLDS men is that only got two of three things correct about women. As everybody knows, women are here on earth for 3 reasons: fucking, pumping out babies, and fetching beer for their overweight husbands. The FLDS men don't drink beer; therefore, the government intervention is highly justified.

It's a fact that 31 out of 18 underage girls from the compound were either pregnant or already had children. That definitely suggests abuse by someone.

They DON'T create their own world, they just withdraw from this world as much as they can or as much as it suits them. The isolation means their children and adults if they have grown up in that lifestyle are not prepared to live with the rest of society, so they are trapped in that lifestyle, which is the INTENTION of the leaders.

The laws were changed because lawmakers became enlightened. I'm sure most people didn't even know the legal age for marriage was 14. The question is whether children and/or women in the FLDS are being abused or deprived of constitutional rights, and claiming religion as a justification for abusing people won't wash.

There is certainly no pressure from society for people to remain poor, any poor people are free to make the changes necessary although it may require some time to succeed.

Even I didn't think that any man with the LDS church drink beer or any kind of alcohol. I should have asked my dad that when he was alive, since I still have his Book of Mormon.

How do you get 31 out of 18? That explains a lot. See what I mean about checking the facts?

The true numbers were 31 out of 53 was the true numbers of girls 14 - 17. All of which were legal until the persecutory laws were created. Even if it DID suggest abuse, it doesn't validate the accusation.

No they create their own world. I guess it's a cup half full or half empty situation. But parents have the right to live the way they want and to raise their kids the way they see fit. Just because you feel that they are abusing their kids, unless it can be proven, it's not abuse. And unless it was forced, marrying a 13 year old who "thinks" that is the way things are supposed to be is not abuse.

No, it was specifically targeted at the FLDS. That's persecution. Did you read the link? The creator specifically said that was what he was doing.

There's no pressure to remain poor? Really? If you know no better, there's no drive to NOT be poor. Kinda like the FLDS. And even with knowledge of "better" some people still choose to be poor. Just like those in the FLDS. You aren't "saving" people if they don't want to be saved. That goes back to the failure of the welfare system. And taking a woman's child just because you don't like the way she is raising them is against her civil rights, unless you can prove actual abuse. And changing the laws to "create" abuse is persecution and wrong. And I don't think they are gonna be able to do that in this case.
Lawsuit pending.

No matter. We all know that true American men are overweight, have a goatee, and wear a ballcap all the time. "Die Hard" American men like to watch NASCAR too. "Real" America men demand their beer be fetched by their good lady wife upon demand! Did I miss anything?
