It has been interesting to see who is defending and attacking the polygamist family structure, given those same people's views on homosexuality and same-sex parenting.

It appears gay couples and polygamists, though often mentioned in the same breath on the gay threads, are not really thought of as similar when the rubber hits the road.

Just an observation.
I don't support polygamy. But I do support people to be able to live in their own closed society as long as they aren't killing or abusing people. If they aren't shown to be physically abusing anyone, I have no problem with people living to themselves behind closed doors. And when you give people that freedom, and I think we have the freedom to do that, and they have children, taking those children because we don't approve of the way they live is wrong. In this case I see laws changed, charges trumped up, and false accusations made to allow the police to raid this compound and disrupt the lives of 800 people. That's a travesty.
Polygamy ain't that much different than having several baby's mommas all over town. At least in this case there doesn't even seem to be any welfare fraud or anything going on. Or at least not according to this blogger. They were just living their life the way they saw fit.
I hope these people get insanely paid from this.

Yeah, it's a channel that shows a bunch of "B" movies where all men are portrayed as rapists, stalkers, and murders. Of course, the women are ALWAYS innocent victims and the men are ALWAYS blatant assholes.

Although many of the movies on Lifetime are aimed as woman self-empowerment, it doesn't in no way paint 'all men' as the enemy...In fact, there's several movies on Lifetime, that paint the man as the hero, not the women...

Movies about single fathers and teenage fatherhood are portrayed as well as men being the victims of domestic violence or rape... Even murdered. And this doesn't even include the romance movies, where both the man and woman are the hero's/winners...Then there's the stories about men in society being singled out because of orientation, religion, or race (not just the females)...

Simply put...The channel is about LIFE from a woman's point of view. Which includes not just celebrating a woman's achievements against bad things in life, but those men that are supportive and empathize with the challenges today's woman faces through their own challenges.

Currently right now on LMN is the story about the detective that refused to give up tracking the Green River Killer...The story isn't so much about the victims, but is a story about how one man didn't give up on capturing his man...

Another story is about a son that was given up for adoption...And his determination to bring his birth parents together and as a result, bring them all together as a family...

Another story is about a young man that is killed...And his mother's determination to find those responsible for his disappearance/death...For HIM.

A story about a father who takes in his estranged daughter after her mother is murdered and the obsticles he overcomes for them to become family once again...

The murder of a young man by his greedy new bride and his family's determination to see justice done.

The murder of Matthew Shephard.

The story of a young mentally disabled teen who is falsely imprisoned for crimes he didn't commit. And his family's fight to have him released.

The story of a black man falsely accussed and imprisoned for rape and his legal fight to clear his name and gain his freedom.

The story of one young man having to choose between friendship and doing what's right when he witnesses his best friend murder a young girl.

The story of a young man who is reunited with his family, after being abducted by a pedophile.

And this is just a sample of the men orientated movies shown on LMN...There's literally hundreds and it would take several pages to list them all...

So sorry to burst the bubble of all you fellows here thinking it's 'the man hating channel', but that is in no way true. I personally believe the reason that men like yourselves view it as 'the man hater's channel' is simply because the story lines threatens your own sense of masculinity. So you project your 'anti-feministic' viewpoints on the preceived content of the channel because it's a 'woman's channel'.

Heck, there's even movies about FEMALE serial killers, murderers, and criminals...Not showing them as heros, but as the villians they were.

I think one famous woman is Elizabeth Broderick, who was portrayed on a TV movie by Meredith Baxter Birney, titled "A Woman Scorned."

Ms. Broderick's husband dumped her in favor of a more prettier and younger woman. Betty Broderick and her ex-husband lived in the San Diego area.

She still had keys to the house that Daniel Broderick and his new bride lived in. So one day she took her gun, went inside the house, and killed both of them.

She cried on the witness stand in her own defense, but she was convicted and sent to prison in California. Ms. Baxter Birney did a good job in portraying Betty Broderick.

In fact, three TV movies were made of that. And whatever news there was about the murders, usually made the front page of the local paper here every day.

Those movies must get shown just so people can say, "look see, we don't hate men". Then the other 364 days out of the year they show their regular man-hating programming. Or maybe they just show that stuff on Feb. 29th.

Seen all three of them...But then again, Baxter is one heck of a good actress and plays the villianess well.

One of my favorite movies on LMN, is the story of the 15 year old boy that that decides to raise his newborn daughter....Story starts out with both teens telling their parents that the young girl is pregnant...Of the young man's determination that he'll go through the pregnancy with the young girl, including having to drop out of regular school and attend a school for pregnant teen mothers...Of his struggle to find work to help pay for the pregnancy, of his struggling to deal with the girl's parents decision to adopt his baby out...Of his coming to 'manhood' and making the final choice to raise his daughter rather then give her away.

Right on the heels of that story, is the story of a 16 year old young man, who actually fights for custody of his daughter...He gets his girlfriend pregnant and really doesn't want a thing to do with the girl or unwanted child. One evening, after having the baby, the girl then just leaves the baby at his parent's doorstep one night for 'him to raise, cause she's not ready to be a parent'...At first he struggles to adjust to sudden parenthood, but finds himself growing more attatched to his child and duties and willing to go the extra mile in providing a home for his child without the help of others. After a couple of years, the mother of the child pops back into the picture suddenly deciding since she's the mother she has the right to just take the child away from him and the home it knows.

A court case ensues where the mother tries to prove him unfit, but he refuses to play that card against her...He just wants to raise his child, even willing to share custody. In the end, before the judge issues his verdict, the mother finally agrees that she really doesn't want to be a full-time parent, and father-daughter are reunited...Intrestingly enough, the judge actually was going to rule in the father's favor...

You only wish FX...Those movies are shown because they are popular and are about LIFE. In fact, several of the movies I've briefly mentioned? Are on all month long and have several showings a day, ALL MONTH LONG, in fact. As well as they are frequently shown throughout the rest of the year.

That doesn't even include as crimes against men (for whatever reason) hit the media, LMN debutes the movies made from those instances within a few months...

Sorry FX...Try to paint it into something it isn't all you like...But the movies and topics shown on LMN are very well balanced.

Hmmmm. It goes to show that society can get a little on the wild side, I guess.

Nice try. All of those "caring" men are portrayed as pussies. You forgot to mention that. I will give the WE channel credit though, all the asshole men that rape and murder are mostly portrayed by actors that are not fat, have a goatee, or wear a ballcap all of the time.
