Angry Christians: Jews of the 21st Century...
"You guys (Christians) have become the Jews of the 21st century."
Quote by Michael Horowitz

"If you listen to some conservative evangelicals these days, we are all standing in the middle of the battlefield of a great war. The War on Terrorism you say? Nope. Bigger. It’s the War on Christians. Whose side are you on?

A recent conference sponsored by Vision America entitled, “The War on Christians and The Values Voter in 2006,” and another event, “Justice Sunday III” sponsored by Focus on the Family Action, have once again shown that some conservative Christians revel in their role as victims.

Some Christian leaders have stepped out of both appropriate and rational bounds in their attempt to label the current state of play in the United States a war."

Are they joking?

Please, tell me this is some sort of parody. I don't claim that the Jews have any sort of monopoly on oppression, but when you're the MAJORITY, it's not exactly hard times.

Nope. Not a joke.
It's the era of stupid propoganda. The majority is discriminated against in the oppression of their "family values" if they can't have every family like theirs. Christians are discriminated against in rules that prohibit ALL religions from doing something.
It's the next logical step in the right-wing lunacy which has evolved with the Republicans in power, and the Republican politicians trying to cater to the fringe in an effort to keep that power...

They take themselves and their claims very seriously.

All government to be legitimate must conform to Bible law / God's Laws.

That's truth!

Bet you can choak on that one.

Romans

13 1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Every government that has instituted religion into law has failed to provide freedom of religion to its citizens and has been a failure as a result.

Imposing your religious will on our government would only take away your right to pray as you choose.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

Actually, no. I don't need to "choke" on it.

All your argument does is give you a reason to classify a secular government as "illegitimate".

Big flipping deal!

The U.S. government will go on with "separation of church and state" without your stamp of "legitimacy". It will continue to collect taxes despite your disapproval. It will continue to protect our borders and serve a variety of functions without your acknowledgement.

Nobody's going to be kept up nights hoping you'll change your mind...

Regarding these evangelicals i would like to draw a comparison to the muslim fundamentalists existing here in Pakistan.

As far as i can see, both groups can only survive if they have a great evil to fight against. In pakistan we have had one privince run by a religious party. That province has been a massive failure. WHy? Well because these types of groups can only work as opposition, saying 'NO" to everything. When asked in detail what they would do, they launch into a tirade of the greatness of god and his chosen religion etc etc without actually giving any concrete answers or solutions to concrete problems like poverty, infrastructure, education, crime etc etc.

The technique used is the same. Attentionis led away from the concrete matters, and instead all the focus is emotional about how mean the world is and how satan has taken over everything, but how this group will fight against all odds and emerge victorious.
They attract followers by emotion, not by anything smart.

You would be surprised how identical the sociological processes are the world over. I am a pakistani and i've only beento the US thrice on short trips, but i'm telling you that us rational people in THIS country are dealing with theexact same issues as you are in yours. That's why i can follow your debates on this site.
And i would recommend that more people with a rational mindset start involving themselves in religion and asking thepertinent questions. Only by rationality will this stupidity cease. That's what we are trying in Pakistan and it seems to be working.

It's hard to conclude that Christians in America are "in the same boat" as Jews in Nazi Germany.

However...

There is ONLY ONE religious group that is "fair game" to be mocked, ridiculed and scorned by everyone from the mainstream media to pundits everywhere: Christians.

The media could NEVER get by with saying about Muslims what is said about Christians.
The media could NEVER get by with saying about blacks or Jews what is said about Christians.

It's very interesting.

PURE b.s.

HOW are other religions not "fair game" like Christianity is?

You need to elaborate.
Vague claims are meaningless.

And is it possible that the things said about "Christians" are based on the ACTIONS of Christians, which aren't found in blacks or Jews?

As for "Muslims", they've got their own realm of issues said against them, and a realm of reasons why it is said against them.
