EARNING salvation! What a concept!

Organised religions are not what they espouse themselves to be. I have no problem with the teachings of Jesus, but I certainly do not believe that the majority of those who claim to follow them have any real idea of why they are doing that. I also think that there are a lot of people who aren't capable of true spiritual understanding because they aren't given the tools necessary to gain that by the church. I would much rather meditate on what the Dalai Lama has to say about our world today, then some person who lived 1940 years ago who couldn't possibly have a clue as to what people were facing today. But that's just me. I'm not saying that anyone else has to believe that, or that it's the only way. I'm not in need of spiritual guidance from you or any proselytising to change my views. There is more than one way of understanding the mysteries of the universe than a single theology based on the history of the Jewish culture after their release from Pharaoh in Egypt. If you are truly searching your soul and engaging in exercises to expand your understanding of your self and your world, you will find the same truths that other religions have found and laid claim to. I have great respect for the good that has been done in the name of God, but that doesn't erase the terrible things that have been done at all.

Yes, that's just what I want, the path to God to be a buffet. Right.

I would rather be given salvation freely. Wouldn't you rather have the satisfaction of knowing that you have been accepted into heaven, instead of trying to prove it to God? With Christ, all we have to do is accept Him as Lord, believe that what He said, and ask for His forgiveness. Then, as long as we mean what we say, we get to go heaven. Its not very religious. Its about faith in God. Its personal. Its relational. It requires an open mind and a soft heart.

That which comes freely is usually cheap and not worth it. Anything you earn is always better, and more appreciated.

If you say so. I have the satisfaction of knowing where I go when I die. That is fact, not theory. Do you know where you go when you die?

Every religion has an answer for where you go when you die. Unless you have died and come back, you can't claim to KNOW anything about it.

If I'm wrong, then so what. I've wasted my time. But, I did strive to earn my way into salvation through good works and charity, plus denying many things detestable.

If I'm right, then you are in for a rough ride my friend. Jesus said, "I am the truth, the way, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus was very straight forward.

So were lots of other gods... but for some reason you don't worship them...

Yes I do, and I am very satisfied with it... I go into the earth, where I will decompose and help give life to other organisms. And I find that very comforting.
