"Why My Religion is Right and Yours is Wrong"
(or The Flawed Logic of "The One True Path")

Quote:
If you are a human being who lives on Earth, you have probably been exposed to other human beings who are not your exact clones.

If this sounds like you, then you have probably also been told once or twice that what you believe is wrong and (coincidentally) the person who told you this just so happens to have the correct set of beliefs that you should promptly integrate into your life.

The first time I heard this, I was excited at this easy replacement for years of personal discipline, study and introspection. Imagine my shock and amazement when I found that that the reasons they offered as to why they were right didn't quite stand up to the feeble light of early dawn.

To save you from suffering the same disappointment that I endured, I have listed some of these reasons that failed to provide me the "easy out" and forced me to do actual real work in finding my own personal spirituality.

If this is what you believe, that all religions are equal in the eyes of individuals, then why are you not deeply offended when people attack (on this forum) what I believe?

Dude, I'm not even "deeply offended" when people on this forum attack what I believe - I don't need their validation or their acceptance or their permission to follow my spiritual path. I'm not asking them to believe what I do, and I'm not telling them that they'll be eternally damned for not believing what I do. So I'm sure not going to get offended "on your behalf".

All I need is for them to not interfere with my right to practice my religion, and to not go passing laws based on their religion. Because as the article points out, there's no way to know who is "right" and who is "wrong", so basing laws and stuff on the premise of "This is what God wants" is really pretty stupid.

Well said. I started to answer him exactly the same but I assumed he would just say he wasn't asking me.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this. That's why I support the Pickens Plan. I guess it would depend on what concept of God you believe in.

Personally? I think the various Gods and Goddesses of the world's religions are aspects of the same Higher Power, that were distilled down into something that we humans can relate to. The form they take is more reflective of the society or culture that worshipped them, because they took the form of "that which was needed by the people", rather than their true nature.

Which, if you think about it, says a lot about the followers of various religions...

I don't know what your religion is - nor how you have been offended.

However, I have noticed that whether a person's religion is from a traditional, conservative background like Christianity or Judaism, or from a more contemporary (albeit ancient) belief like Wicca, most people respect others' spiritual paths on this forum - or even the total lack of spiritual path.

It's only when a person insists on respect for THEIR religion, but is unwilling to give the same to others, that they are not held in particularly high regard.

When are you going to embark on your ministry as the supreme being has commanded? Do you have your 12 apostles picked out yet?
