I spent 20 seconds doing a quick seach on KJV for the word "destroy." Exodus 12:23
For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
God can be shown as tender and kind, or wrathful and murderous... all depends on what behavior you'd like to justify.

All it says is two upon a bed and two in a field. (Depending upon whether you look at Luke or Matthew) The two could be taken as two men, two women, two people, two children, etc.
Ancient Greek has three genders: male, female and neuter. While many numbers are declined in all three genders, δυο, Greek for two, does not. It is not written with respect to gender and so without a noun or direct article it is impossible to tell the gender in this case. Translators have inserted men and women into the verses because it is less likely we would simply say two upon a bed in English, we would add another noun.
