Well the premises behind Dr. Ballard's expeditions is that all of the stories tell of one single flood. Its true that there have been floods which come before and after ice ages and cover up many coastal areas; thus explains ruins found underwater just off the coast of some Japanese islands. But do all of those stories have to reflect just one flood? Floods happen in many regions of the world many times annually, and there are also Tsunamis to consider.

This one submerged quite a bit of Turkey, so regionally this one would seem to fit the 'Noah's Ark' flood.

Religions are real though they are based on myths, and floods are real too, inspiring myths that when collected with others form religions.
