I just read this thread to my Master Sergeant, and he pointed out to me that Mormons DO believe in the Christ of the Bible. They simply believe that the book of mormon is an additional scripture.

I don't want the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses in my home. Period.

It's not just because I've got better things to do. It's for several other reasons:
1. I know what I believe, and why. I am very, very well informed and studied as to my personal faith.
2. Mormons & JWs WON'T LEAVE YOU ALONE. If you give them an inch, they take a foot. If you let them in your house, they won't leave.
3. They keep coming back. Over and over and over. It's like feeding a stray kitten once. Do that, and he'll keep coming back with all his friends.
4. As to their "religion"... Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT "orthodox" Christians (which may or may not be offensive to you). They really do have some totally wacked-out beliefs. If you don't believe me, check out what the Mormons believe about Moroni, or that they believe you can (only if you're a man) become the God of your own personal planet. Weird stuff. And yes, in the classic sense of the word, both are considered to be a "cult".

They may be perfectly nice people. But I don't want them in my home.

This is true. But the Bible clearly says that we are not to add to, or take away from, the Scriptures.

Bottom line: In practical terms, the Mormons put MORE weight and validity in the Book of Mormon than they do in the Bible. Kinda like the Catholic Church. They put MORE weight and validity in church tradition than they do in the Bible.

Ask him if he believes Jesus and the devil were brothers? That is not what mainstream Christians believe.

Ask him if he can become a god and rule his own planet? That is not what mainstream Christians believe.

Mainstream Christians do not believe in additional scripture (the book of Mormon). Mainstream Christians believe in one book, the bible.

Whoah... wait a minute... I was raised Catholic... Catholics believe VERY stronlgy in the Bible. Catholics are the ORIGINAL Christians. You can not get any more Christian than Catholic. Everyone else is just rule-changing 'Catholic-Lite'...

By the way, the part about adding to, or subtracting from is in Leviticus, so does that mean everything after that is wrong?

I could agree with that statement if you were referring to a dog.

But a cat?

When was the last time ANY cat was in ANY place or relationship for purposes other than his own?

My Master Sergeant acknowledges that Mormons are NOT mainstream christians (and I never claimed they were), but I don't see how anyone can deny that they are Christians.

Which verse in Leviticus? There are a couple places in the bible where it says about adding things.

Mainstream Christians believe in Jesus and the bible only. Mormons teach you have to believe the book of Mormon also.
