If the Muslim client base is large enough, the shrewd decision is to provide the desired separation.
Sounds to me like the company has already bent over backwards to accomodate these Muslims who are demanding special treatment. She's demanding preferential treatment that is not afforded to any other group, or any other person.

If they want this to be a Muslim Fitness Center, then the Muslims need to buy it, and make it one. If they're not willing to do that, perhaps they should simply "Shut the Couscous Hole". This is a PUBLIC Fitness Center.

The whole thing "stinks of a rat".

GET IT?
The article doesn't state the nature of the disturbance.

It could have been the other woman calling her names. It could have been the Muslim woman asking the other woman to be quieter during her prayers.

Quite frankly, if the other woman just walked up to the Muslim woman and ACTIVELY interrupted, with purpose, then that's just plain rude and I would think the Fitness Center should say so.

If the other woman was doing something more routine to the gym, then I would say you are accurate.

Unfortunately, the article doesn't give much on specifics.

Inflammatory statements aside, how exactly has the Fitness Center been put out by this policy. All they really have to do is decide whether to institute it, and set aside an area, possibly with a barrier.

Companies "bend over backwards" for people all the time. It's what companies do to get customers and keep customers.
Unless you're a cell phone company. Then it's just a general %@#$ you to the public...

Yes. She is.
Not only her, but other Muslim women as well.
And in exchange for this "preferential treatment", these Muslim women will continue to plunk down $$$$ in membership at that gym.

I feel just horrible for the gym about this. It makes them a prostitute for the $$$$.
<end sarcasm>

Why?
Why should they have to shut up?
It is a simple request Jefferson.
As much as you don't seem to realize it, people make requests of companies they go to all the time. Some people demand special things done with their food. Others ask the company if they can have later hours. Others ask for this. Others ask for that.

This whole mentality of "Shut up" makes no sense.
It's a part of the business world for the customer to demand and the supplier to supply. If the supplier feels that the customers demands are too great, then the supplier has the freedom to not supply.

It's clear you don't like this situation, but your explanation defies reality.

1. Yes, this is true.
2. Danged right I'm accurate!
3. True - and an unfortunate fact of life concerning our media. Stories that are incomplete and very mis-leading.

I agree.
That woman who interrupted the Muslim's prayer must have specifically targetted the Muslim for abuse. It's another example of anti-Muslim prejudice.

They need to put a sign up:

"This is a gym. If you must pray, then do so and don't complain about the noise. This is after all a gym. If you feel you are being insulted by this policy, pack your bags and take your muslim ass back to where you came from". Thank you and have a nice day.

The Management."

And then we can put a similar one up in schools, eh Alias?
One that states this is a school, and the purpose is education and not religion, and thus if you feel the need to pray, do it quietly by yourself?
And if you can't cope, take your behind somewhere else...

You twisted my words again. I never said she had to be quiet and do it by herself. It's not the Christians praying in schools who are complaining. It's the liberal communists like you. Another feeble attempt by foundit to obfuscate the issue by confusion. Try again.

More likely, the patron interrupted her by giving her a hard time or something, since that would be more out of the ordinary, and since the manager said that other patrons don't have to respect her God, that sounds like another patron was disrespecting her God.

But like I said, this article doesn't really explain what happened. So we can't judge who was right or wrong.

So first of all, you have two people with different stories about what happened - the Muslim lady and the manager.
I'm not sure they are different. It doesn't look like either story is presented in this article.

But the main point is this: This is a fitness center. That is its primary purpose. It is NOT a prayer center - not for christians, muslims, buddhists, or any other religion. If people are praying there, that's fine, but that's not its PRIMARY PURPOSE.
Sure, I can understand that. Certainly her prayers shouldn't interfere with anyone else's exercise. But I'm not sure if that is what happened, or if another patron was going out of his way to interrupt her prayer.
