Christianity preaches that homosexuality is a sin, but that we should love the sinner and hate the sin and repent of it.

While everyone in the church is a sinner, should the church promote into positions of authority people who not only base their lives around that sin, but are proud of it and refuse to repent?

That is the question Sally

"Christianity" doesn't preach ANYTHING.

Christians are a group of people who follow the teachings and word of Jesus Christ.

Luckily, there are some Christian sects (and growing every year) and the majority of Jewish sects in America, that recognizes the outrageous irrational prejudice that is preached by some ministers, rabbis, and religious figures. (Usually, validating their prejudice with a quote from Leviticus - knowing full well that there are MYRIAD things in Leviticus which are also condemned, but are considered unimportant today).

OhDear:

In response to your article, that's why I like Sojourners Magazine. Sojourners: Christians for Justice and Peace .... It always demonstrated to me people like you and me putting Christian principles in practice.

I've felt the same frustration about Christianity that you do... seems to be about guilt and shame and things you "shouldn't do"... I've always wanted my Christian experience to be more positive... and it hasn't been. (It's really a long story I may be willing to share on another occasion.) Anyway, Sojourners makes me feel less discouraged.

(that and also this magazine: The Wittenburg Door ... it's Christian satire for Christians by Christians!)

Christanity does not preach homosexuality is a sin. But the OT very clearly preaches that wearing blended fabrics is a sin, what is in your closet?

... not to mention, being sure to avoid sitting on a chair upon which a woman who has her period has sat - that's a BIG no-no

(however, while trying to adhere to this commandment, some women, get very offended if you ask them if they're having their period)

Christianity does not preach that homosexuality is a sin. As for getting married, Christianity does preach that it is a holy experience between a man and a woman. Joining two people of the same sex in holy matramony is. I think it is okay for two people of the same sex to be in love with each other, just not married to one another.

(not meaning to go off on Tristan at all, sorry if it sounded like I did.)

Christianity also advocates, in the same set of laws as homosexuality, a host of other obscure bylaws dealing with sex, food preparation, garments, regular animal sacrifices, and draconian punishments dealt to those who choose to disobey these laws. Christ never even mentioned homosexuality, which means that even if he did view it as immoral, it was never a big issue.

You also seem to be hating on a lot of "sinners" here and calling them amoral and degenerate. How "christian" of you.

If I'm not mistaken, the Bible says quite clearly in a number of places that homosexuality is "an abomination to God" that is punishable by death. To suggest that the Bible and therefore Christianity condones homosexuality would be to be living under wishful and delusional thinking. But it also speaks of selling your daughter into sex slavery. Oh, but I forgot, we can pick and choose.
