As such, this isn't a discussion just about YOUR Christianity, but Christianity in general. And various aspects of Christianity which have reared their ugly head over time.
With that said, I'm not stereo-typing Christianity. If I haven't been explicit enough, the examples I talk about are just examples of some people's Christianity. Not indicative of the entire group.
With that said...

This being a perfect example.
I am referencing the likes of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.
I have never claimed that you shared their statements. And if I implied that I did, that was a mistake as it was not my intent.

With that said, the commentary I WAS referencing is a huge reason why people see something "wrong" with Christianity today.
If you want to discuss that, that would be great.
If you want to start up your own thread entitled "What the Hell Happened to JayD's Christianity", I think that might be a more important venue for fixating just on your personal interpretation while ignoring the rest...

See Above...

Specifics?
Demanding prayer in school when our constitution obviously forbids it.
Demanding that Christian symbology be placed on government land where they have no right to demand it. (This is amusingly enough often coupled with complaints of BOTH anti-Christian discrimination [when it's actually a secular issue] and claims that the symbology's purpose is not Christian. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.)
Demanding their theology basics be taught in school alongside science, like "creation science".
Obstruction of necessary research like stem cells and the like.

Not at all.
But if the SOLE justification for their voice is grounded in religion, then that voice cannot be reflected in law.

What is the "saddest" part is that this country is 75% Christian.
If "Christians" in general WANTED it to be a "natural expression", they could MAKE IT SO in their own private lives.
And instead of fixing that, and working within your OWN CONGREGATIONS and YOUR OWN LIVES, instead we get inane platitudes calling on Jesus.

What's that phrase?
The Lord helps those who help themselves?
Figure it out for yourself...

Let me guess. Crap you've gotten from a chain e-mail which you turned around and tossed in other people's e-mail inboxes??

No. I don't know how many kids are stabbed everday.
Do you?
Please. Enlighten me.
And please provide proof of your statement while you're at it.

The number one cause of death amongst teen-agers is alcohol and alcohol related accidents. It has been for quite a while.
Christian kids boozing it up alongside the atheist kids and the other religions...

But of course, we can't blame THAT on anybody but the parents, so let's focus instead on abortion because THAT we can put some political zing into our religious indoctrination.

There are some issues of "evil" growing in our school systems.
And some elements of Christianity are attempting to use such tragedies to further their own political goals.
How would you recommend we fix this "evil"? Stop abortion? Bring prayer back in the schools? Sing "Kum-by-yah" and the ostracized kid will forget all his problems and it will all be good again?

Talking to people like you, I have no dilution that this country can save its self in anyway shape or form. Its gotten to the point where there is no turning back on the moral compass. But since your taking suggestions, I would recomend that everyone turn tward Jesus, and start living as though there eternity depended on it. Cause it does.

Of course not. Why should we look at examples of these things when we can just ignore them altogether...
You sure know how to twist and spin things dont cha? Im not going to bother with the rest of this train wreak of a post.

JayD, I'm starting to think you really are a bigot. You seemed reasonable enough, before, but you actually believe that anybody who doesn't believe in Jesus will go to hell? I have to laugh at this. I'd try to convince you otherwise, but A) It would be a waste of time, B) I'd be pusing my beliefs and, C) I get the feeling that your religion is only a smokescreen for more deep seated issues.

I'm being entirely serious on this one. Whoever thinks that there's some kind of plot against America by homosexuals, humanists, and jews is a dangerously closed-minded and hateful person.

Well sure. I dont know how you thought other wise.

I dont have a religion, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ, your problem is with him and his teachings, not with me.

There is a "plot" by homosexuals to indoctrine our children in to thinking its safe, normal, and moral. Do you denie this? I got nothing but love for everyone, though. Especialy the Jews.

75% of this country is Christian.

And yet "this country" is in dire straights, and needs the government to do the Christian X, Y, and Z in order to save it.
If the Christians aren't doing it on their own, why should anybody think that getting the government involved should fix anything?
Does Christianity really need the government to ENFORCE their religious doctrine in order for it to be followed?

Take the Christian divorce rate as an example. Some Christians say that we need to stop gay marriage to "protect marriage", but what the hell kind of authority can you get from a group which has a WORSE divorce rate than the atheists in this country.

Quite frankly, you tell us to look to Jesus to be saved, but in looking at the Christians who HAVE done that, there is NO DIFFERENCE.
No significant improvement in "morality". No significant improvement on anything. Christians are just as screwed up as the rest of us.
It just seems that some of them are a little more pompous in pretending they aren't...

Chicken Little is running around proclaiming that the sky is falling, except this time he's wearing a Christian cross and demanding political power to prevent it...

I realize such a pat response may help you to think you've done something, but in the objective eyes of anybody who is reading this exchange you've come off as weak and incapable of defending the issue at all.

What's that sentence you used JayD?
JayD: "But I guess you didnt really want to talk about it?"

Makes you wonder how many of those people are really Christian.
Does Christianity really need the government to ENFORCE their religious doctrine in order for it to be followed?
I dont know where you got that from, cause I certainly didnt say it. In fact I think Ive been more than clear that there is no hope for this country, unless one looks to Jesus Christ himself.

Im with you on this. In fact, it makes one wonder, outta the 75% how many are really Christian. Not to many I gotta assume.

Your making this to easy.
No significant improvement in "morality". No significant improvement on anything. Christians are just as screwed up as the rest of us.
Yea, 75% is looking more like 25% at most.
It just seems that some of them are a little more pompous in pretending they aren't...

Who is demanding political power? At least who isnt demanding political power?

The world hated him first. So naturaly the world will hate me as well. I rejoice in pursecution. But go ahead, keep throwing em out there, I'll keep knocking them outta the park.

JayD: "But I guess you didnt really want to talk about it?"
Little pre mature on that hu? I waited 2 days for your responce. You've waited 10 mins.

that's ridiculous.
no college has to accept a student from ANY unaccredited school.
...and if the school has teachers who have the minimum required state degrees (in NY state, it's a Masters), they could BE accredited.

There is one "Christian" home-school organization here in New Haven - they have six teachers - only ONE has a BACHELORS degree - the others have assorted Associates and high school dipolomas.

pffffffft. Before colleges will accept them - they need to straighten up. I DO NOT want any college (especially state tax-funded colleges) to admit students who have been taught by people with no education!!! Why do I have to pay for the remedial classes to catch them up to others? Especially when the public schools are FREE?! If these Christian home-schools want to be treated equally with public schools, they should be getting an equal education. (It also annoys me that the kids in this "private" school here in New Haven, get to use the school extracurricular activities; all evidence points to it being used as a free tax paid babysitting service)

LOL
The United States Government and 50 individual STATE governments provide a free education for every child in America...being taught by educated people who follow a mandated program.
If you want something DIFFERENT - just as Catholics, rich people, etc. have done for a century - do it. Don't expect us to pay for your 'special' Christian school, too. LOL LOL LOL
That's the whole point of PRIVATE school - you PAY FOR IT.
