Today's Thought...
Quote:
Let us live gladly! Quite certainly we are free to do it. Perhaps it is our only freedom, but ours it is, and it is only phenomenally a freedom. 'Living free' is being 'as one is'. Can we not do it now? Indeed can we not-do-it? It is not even a 'doing': it is beyond doing and not-doing. It is being as-we-are. This is the only 'practice'. 'All Else is Bondage; Non-Volitional Living' - Wei Wu Wei...

I like that, Tadpole.

Here is one for you, "
Emancipation from the bondage of the soil is no freedom for the tree." Rabindranath Tagore

I really think the heart of it shares the same focus as your quote.

I mainly meditate in the Burmese (normal cross-legged, I can't do full-lotus and half-lotus makes me unbalanced) position and just count the breath. That's all. 1-10 and start again, focus on nothing but the breath, and watch the thoughts but don't become engaged with them. Just acknowledge them and return to the breath.
I sometimes count breaths. Sometimes I focus on an image, or on nothing. I spend a lot of time focusing on and pondering nothing, and impermanence. Sometimes I try to focus on sending positive energy to an individual or the world...

I agree OD. I like it too. But I'm reminded: (I paraphrase below)

Sear, not to get way off topic here, but you know the quote you just shared, well, I believe that.

I don't think we get to even really choose what we believe. We can choose what beliefs we expose ourselves to, but whether or not we embrace any particular thought, we seem helpless, I think.

Do you get that too?

Tadpole, I would be much obliged if you would send me your positive energy. And I seriously mean that.

Will do...

I am always serious when I do it. It's my way of "praying for people". I don't know if it helps, but it can't hurt.
