***Referral system updated August 2006***

The system has been upgraded and is now much easier to manage. There is a "Refer a Friend" link on the left side of the page. All you have to do now is enter in your friends name/e-mail and optionally a short message. If the user visits the site and registers, you will get credit.

Contests will be available soon and prizes will be given away to those who have the most referrals.

The referral system is going to be down for probably an hour or so...Gonna install a referral plus system that includes points, rewards, prizes to those who refer the most people! Don't worry, anyone who has referred someone already will still have their credits.

It is easy enough to mask the IP you are coming from and make it appear to be one other than your real IP. Now granted it does require some small amount knowledge, but any motivated script kiddie could potentially earn a cool prize with minimal effort, especially if we start giving away actual free stuff.

Just a thought from an INFOSEC guy...

haha sounds good. I'll just run a tracert in dos to see if it brings me to the same place.

Maybe I should only give credits to the referrers who actually post.

That sounds a lot better to me.

The at least if they want to cheat, they have to make an earnest effort of it.

And it will save you a lot of investigative hassle.

Everything is setup. Check your profiles for the "referral center" link. The only work you really have to do is enter your friends e-mail address.

Your friend no longer has to register right away in order for you to get credit. A cookie is put on his or her computer, so even if they browse around the whole site, you will still get credit for the signup. Pretty cool huh?

I couldn't transfer the old referrals because this system is completely different and more complex. I am probably going to integrate more features into the system such as (points). People will get points for posting, referring people, etc. These points can be applied towards prizes, and even Defending the Truth apparel that we might offer in the future.
