Hey guys (and girls),

I'm actually willing to donate somewhere from $60 to $120 for, let's say, the year. This would cover $5 to $10 of the cost of this site per month. And, if only nine other people were to match even my minimum donation of $60 for the year, we would be able cover the $50 per month cost of a semi-dedicated hosting service.

Now, if even less than 1/8 of the 658 membersof this site were to donate some money for the entire year, say 50 members, the cost per year to each of us would drop substantially...to $12 per year. (This is less than the cost of many entrees at many restaurants.)

So, if you would like this site to continue "status quo," perhaps we can all chip in and buy the website owner a dinner once a year.

What do you say?

This question about the CNN.com thing is a good place to start. That is, I feel like a forum should not be using 30% of the CPU, even if I sat here clicking the refresh button.

So do you have any idea what might be using so much CPU power? Is it CNN.com? Is it something else?

Anyhow, I've never used this website, but I always thought they appeared to have some good deals:

Web Hosting Services, Affordable & Reliable | Lunarpages.com

Maybe you could find a good hosting plan there.

Sorry about not responding quickly enough..Just took my Database Management Mid-term Exam and I know I aced it

I have CNN set up so it queries new posts every 30 minutes.

The current plan I have set for this web site allows me to have 20GB monthly bandwidth. What I use varies from 8-10GB...so bandwidth is not the issue.

The main issue is the processing of all this information. Anytime a visitor or member clicks on a link, it retrieves the data from the mySQL database. The main thing that is increasing the load on the CPU is the amount of visitors on the web site.

This web site averaged about 4,000 visitors/month last year. This year, we average over 19,000 visitors a month, and that's not including returning visitors and search engine spiders. As you can see on the home page, the spiders sure do love the web site!

My friend runs Ford Mustang | Mustang Forums for Ford Mustang Enthusiasts and he had to also make the choice to upgrade to a semi-dedicated, and now dedicated hosting plan. DefendingTheTruth is following the same path.

***DECIDED TO UPGRADE TO SEMI-DEDICATED PLAN***

I've been with many hosts in the past, and WireNine is by far the best company I have ever been with. I told them that I will accept the Semi-Dedicated plan:
WireNine Semi-Dedicated Web Hosting - cPanel Web Hosting Fantastico cPanel Web Hosting

They are going to initiate a transfer to the semi-dedicated server today. We are going to arrange a time to do some backups, and close down the forums. The forums could be down for 30 minutes, or even up to 2-4 hours (depending on how long it takes)

Tonight, once the transfer is finished, expect the forums to FLYYY! Performance will be increased greatly with with a a limited number of clients on the semi-dedicated server (15 accounts max)
