| I propose we take a poll, we will leave the poll in place for 1 week. The poll will decide whether or not to give the reputation system a 90 day trial. At the end of 90 days we will re-poll to see if people like it enough to make it permanent. How's that sound? Fight the good fight, and die with the enemy's heart in your hand. http://www.armysailor.com http://www.tadpolenet.com/techblog ------------------------------------ Check out my latest addition to the blogosphere Quixotic Journey | |||||||||||||||||||||

But personally, I think instilling any type of public 'warning' system about members is bad news all the way around. It creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for those not involved as well as those having to make the hard decisions on moderating the site for all concerned. It's bad enough that members here bring their complaints about moderators to the public forum for debate, something I do not agree with period. Anything in regards to suspending or banning members should be left between the moderating staff and those being suspended or banned privately in the first place. Any disagreements with those actions taken also shouldn't be public knowledge or even debated among the rest of the members themselves. It just opens the moderating staff up to having thier actions being publically wieghed when in the long run has only to do with them and those it's being enforced on in the first place. And any type of public warning or rating system itself will open the door for those more likely to break the rules to complain more when they are part of the moderating actions taken.

Heck, there's been a dozen posts today alone accusing the staff of showing favortism towards those perceived to be homosexual? Is that really accussation nessacery or provide a healthy enviroment for posters site wide? Or is it fruitful for the site for it's members to have to tolerate being called pimps, abusers, or molesters cause someone can't discuss the topics being discussed but rather engage in character assassination? Ohhhh, I can just imagine how those types will do with rating then, when the posting is already out of hand. And let's not forget those that can't help but respond in like either...It'll be a mess and even added fuel to the insult throwing already going on. In the end, the staff will do as they see fit. And as a member here, I'll accept their decisions and do as/work within what they decide to impliment or not. BUT what I am voicing, since we were asked to voice our opinions about these implications, is the fact that it will make things harder on the site, it's staff, and it's members in the long run. Not better. And since members opinions were asked for, that's this particular member's opinions about it.

| I think that it would be a VERY bad idea. There is an unfortunate element that prides itself on racking up infractions, bans etc. You REALLY don't want this element attracted to this site. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Admins Thought - I honestly believe that showing infractions is something that this web site will never adopt. I believe it will have a negative impact on the current members here, and visitors from all over the world. When someone visits the site and they see infraction points on every thread, what are they going to think?? If I were a visitor visiting for the first time, I wouldn't sign up because of that. The reputation system is pretty cool, but I don't know if it would work out...According to vBulletin, the reputation system will require much more database space and connections which would in return increase server load. For small communities, I think it's fine, but for a large community like this, I think it would hurt the performance. | |
