At the moment the server load is an unbelievable 209.82 (not caused by us!) which is the precise reason I want to move it.

Amazingly the server does still load, but very slowly.
Finally got access! Wow 600,000+ posts!! Congrats!

Well...in some ways, it has some similarities to yours, except that the membership is predominantly UK. We do have many members from other countries though.

We started in 2002 as a "breakaway" site from the forums of a UK ISP (Tiscali) which I helped moderate at the time. I left and set these up. People have come and gone and the site evolves. We discuss basically anything as long as it's legal. There's quite a contingent that discuss UK politics with a particular slant on immigration, and there's a polarised left wing/right wing faction who are always argueing.

There's a lot "serious debate" and also lot of "daft threads" where people mainly chat. Plus there's the arcades as well, which I see you also have here.

I don't really advertise the site, it ticks over of its own accord. People come, people go.

One thing I would clarify is that I don't advertise the site, people just "find" it. If we never got another new member it wouldn't be an issue. Therefore once this thread is done, I have no problem with the link being edited out....I wasn't going to put it in, and only did so when asked. So please don't think I want to spam, that's not how we work. I would never try and damage anyone else's site, I know the hard work that goes into running a forum.

Thanks....I think they've stabilised it now. But it's been doing this ever since Feb 14th when they switched datacenters...it's a nightmare, it really is. Which is a shame, as for five years they have been such fantastic hosts.

I don't want to leave them, if only out of loyalty for the good service we've had, but they're killing our site now with all the downtime and slow speeds.

Yep that's how it goes...it almost certainly isn't an attack on your site, nor even the hosts. It could be the datacenter conceivably, but it's more likely to be random.

On my existing hosts someone keeps DDoSing the mail server, which brings the whole lot down.

Spammers don't come aboard as cordially as you did. You can usually smell a trouble maker a mile away. I see no reason to remove your link. I'm interested in checking your site out when I can get it to load...

Thanks...it *should* be working now, as the hosts have apparently terminated an account that was being used for unsavoury purposes...

I just generated a full-backup. It just finished now...hopefully that helped.
