Actually, you both are correct. Hitler did suffer from megalomania. He saw himself as another Frederick the Great and Bismarck at the same time. What I would term as his stupidity, is that he failed to recognize that he had at his disposal probably the most fantastic collection of military minds of the time. His problem was that he could not admit this to himself. He hated having generals tell him anything about war. Coupled with his distate for anyone with "von" in their name, he was doomed to utter failure.
The truth is, had Hitler stuck to politics and let the generals run the war, Germany's defeat would not have been nearly so decisive- if at all. The specter of the two-front war, always Germany's greatest nightmare, was avoided assidiously early on. This was probably one of the things that pushed the very-proud German people towards Hitler. He was accomplishing great things without war at first, and cheaply for awhile after. The thing that Hitler was capitalizing on was the renewed pride of Germany after the disgrace of the Versailles Treaty of World War I.

The Germans are, and always have been a proud people. Hitler took advantage of this after Versailles by referring to the existing governments as the "November criminals".Early on in the early pre-war days; Hitler was restoring pride to the German people by his bloodless political victories. Granted, Neville Chamberlain's appeasement approach did not help the rest of the world. He never understood the old dictum that if you give in to blackmail; you don't stop it-you just encourage more of the same behavior.

Hitler played on the people with the rhetoric he knew would work. He appealed to their sense of pride after the humiliation Germany suffered in WWI, and the Treaty of Versailles. He also used the terrorist tactic of causing fear in the people and leading them to believe he was the only one who could protect them.

This sounds awfully familiar to me for some reason.

And protect them, he could not during WWII, when the Allies, including Russia, bombed the country. Hitler's head got too big for his own good.

I think Hitler became more and more crazy because of the influence of the occult workings that he and others had been undertaking over the years. He definately went off balance and his psyche progressed deeper and deeper into madness. According to those who are familiar with occult workings, there must be proper preparations made by an individual before embarking on the occult path, in order to guard the person from from the disruption that the energetic forces may cause in the personality. Hitler was unbalanced from the start, and these imbalances only grew once he was exposed to the energies he encountered with the occult rituals they performed.

Although, he did believe that by committing suicide the way he did, on the day that he did, created an influence energetically on the future.

Yeah, especially among the young people: Neo-Nazi skinheads, wearing tattoos, and boots. Scary.

Hitler's army made one little mistake that changed the entire outcome of the war in the European theatre.

Very true, WT. Add to that the daily injections and supplements he was receiving from his quack physician, Dr. Theo Morell, and you have a Hitler who was really losing touch with all reality on a daily basis.
Another point to add is that Hitler, like our recently departed friend Saddam, controlled every aspect of life for Germany. At a certain point; whether ordinary Germans or not, fear of the Gestapo and their brutalities made people look the other way at the excesses of the Nazi regime.

That was pretty much the way Stalin ran Russia. He dictated their life. And if he feared even the tiniest thing to happen, such as who might control Russia, he created the purges.
