The implications of the "voucher" system for the private school are numerous and potentially detrimental for the wishes of the private schools.
If the private schools get public money for an education, then the private schools are opening themselves up to the LEGAL REQUIREMENTS of the public school system.
In other words, a religious private schools would not be able discriminate against students based on religion or sexual orientation if the law states that the schools cannot do that.
Yes. Absolutely.

In addition, the private schools cannot deny admission to kids who are ESL, EBD or otherwise learning impaired.

Level playing fields. That's all that's needed.

Public schools with either improve or close. Private schools will either conform to federal mandates, or not be able to accept federal money.

It's a win-win situation - unless, of course, you're an NEA Beaurocrat.

Just another case of where liberals get a stronghold and then set up their little kingdoms (Teacher's Union). So, to get back to educating our children, we (conservatives) have to work around you because you always want more money and refuse to work together to improve education. You lose. Freedom wins.

I guess I still don't see the purpose of gutting the existing school system in order to proceed down this path.
We can fix what we have.

I'm curious if there have been any economic studies on the issue...

Don't you think it would be a good idea to cut the fat and the incompetent from the school systems? How can you be against that?

It's simple.

Children - especially POOR children - should NOT be forced to go to a sucky public school, just because the NEA has a stranglehold on America's education system.

Don't you care about poor children in America? Don't you care about giving them the opportunity for a better life?

It's simple. Every school, regardless of location, should have exactly the same quality to offer their students. Period.

Problem solved.
--- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope ---

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I think we all agree on that. What we don't agree on is how we achieve that? We say through school vouchers which will eventually eliminate those who are not teaching or not qualified to teach. What is your proposal?

Why is the only solution being presented one that damages the existing public school system?

"NEA stranglehood" shouldn't be the issue. QUALITY should be the issue.

I care about the poor children and that's why I'm more interested in FIXING the problem instead of pushing things off elsewhere...

Exactly.

And I don't think Jefferson appreciates the fact that his solution will HARM the public schools. I haven't seen anybody for vouchers broach the fact that vouchers WILL HARM the public school system.
