A good and fair public education system only requires two things to solve:
1) Make sure every school offers the same resources to its students regardless of location
2) Pay teachers a lot more (what they are worth)
What a load of festering, steaming, horse crap!

1. Take away the monopoly! Make schools compete! Just like colleges. The best schools will get more students.

2. Take away tenure. Most public school teachers are fantastic people - and I agree that they should be paid more. But blow that tenure crap out your butt. All it does it protect and coddle the few teachers that SUCK. And students suffer.

3. Institute school vouchers. This will help poor families get their kids to the best schools - regardless of whether those schools are public, private, magnet, parochial or charter.

As a parent who has been heavily involved in the public school system for years, I can assure you and FoundIt66 that you need to pull your heads out of your butts and learn about education.

Are you ready to stop sending me e-mails telling me I've got an infraction point? Are you ready to be a man and stop being a little pansy ass. You let me know and I'll debate with you. I'm going to treat you just like a disobedient child if you keep this shit up about this infration bullshit. You need to learn to respect your elders even if you don't agree with them. That is called being polite. If I want to use Newsmax for a story choice, you do not have the right to tell me not to use it. We have freedom of the press in this country. You better get over it and stop telling me what to do. Are you ready to be an adult now and publicly apologize? I'm waiting.

That will only lead to those with money getting a proper education and those who cannot afford the good school to suffer. It would exacerbate the problems, except for the privileged.

I don't see how tenure is greatly affecting the problems we see in our school system. If we paid them what they are worth our good teachers wouldn't wander off to some higher paying position and then we would want them to have tenure!

Tenure takes a long time to get so hopefully a piss poor teacher would have been fired for lack of academic performance long before they reach tenure.

That is a band aid on a gusher. We need to make sure all schools perform at a high standard so which school isn't even an issue!! Because at the end of the day we want all our students to get the same deal... do we not?

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

We CURRENTLY HAVE COMPETITION.
Don't you get that???

The private schools DO compete with each other. And the KIDS COMPETE to get into the private schools.
The schools grab the BETTER students.

I think a modified version of "tenure" should exist, but definitely ensure the system doesn't coddle poor teachers just because they've been there long enough.

HOW MANY families will it help when private schools can only support ONLY FOUR PERCENT of the public school population???

"heavily involved in the public school system for years" eh?
Keep trying. You'll graduate from that school one of these years...

There is NO COMPETITION.

When it costs $500 per month to send your kid to private school, but nothing to send them to public school, THERE IS NO COMPETITION.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS NO LONGER DESERVE TO HAVE A STRANGLE-HOLD ON EDUCATION.

...and as for my involvement in our public school system, what exactly would you like to know, dumbass?

Obviously you have NO direct experience in the American Public School system. If you did, you could NOT be talking that stupidly.

If you can ride the bus for free, or buy a BMW for several thousand dollars, is there "competition"?
And do we need to hand out BMW vouchers to ensure there is competition?

Then fix them.
Don't take the money away from them to send a FEW kids to a private school.
FIX the public schools.
