Remember
In Memoriam . . .

Non Sequitur

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.
This is in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

Yes. Have you seen the movie "Sofie Scholl" yet? It just came out on DVD at the stores. My local store did not have it but Blockbuster did. Powerful movie.

Nice comic David.
Very true... and we have seen this danger reflected in the current administration.
--- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope ---

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

In my opinion, this administration has not fought intense enough. We should be fighting like we did in WWII and wiping out Iran and Syria like we did to Germany and Japan. They are the root.

yeah that's right.. all terrorism and violence stems from the evilness of Iran and Syria

Incidentally, the US didn't capture berlin or remove hiler's government.. The RUSSIANS did ( paying a dear price in doing so ).. SO if the rest of the world ( including Europe) should be grateful to a nation, it would be RUssia. I love how america has decided to "own" WWII. Oh i forget.. The russians were evil communists so they couldn't possibly be saviors..

Regarding Japan, that was a true victory.. It was also a victory based on the slaughter of several million INNOCENT CIVILIAN people in TWO strikes.. Really something to be proud of??? Pearl Harbor, yes.. Iwo Jima, yes.. Hiroshima and Nagasaki.. i really don't think so.

Anyhow WWII is OLD. It is also IRRELEVANT now.. Many millions more have died in conflicts since then. Get over it.

Regarding Iran and Syria, considering how Japan and Germany are economic powerhouses ( unimpressed by the US ), US "destruction" may nt be more than a minor inconvenience in the long term.

Especially considering the fact that PLENTY of nations will side against the US for Irani oil. So maybe trying to destroy both nations will land the US in a HUGELY fucked up situation.

But i hope the US will try. It wll only hasten the inevitable.. nothing more.

Puh-lease!!!

I wonder how much anyone could look today and see the way things are based on the way things were...

What of Yalta and Tehran Meetings of the High Mucka Mucka's circa WW2?

The generational scope of anything we say, do and commit to now too must be weighed in the light of a yet uncharted future. Who we assist, how we assist and for what reasons will all come to play for our children's children...

Remembering is good, but looking ahead may be of greater value, since we are told that we learn from history that we learn nothing from history.

Actually the numbers were more like several hundred thousand people vs several million people.
Big difference there.

Also, our thinking at the time was the lesser of two evils... lose over a million solders on our side and there side or several hundred thousand with the two bombs.

The power of the bomb was undeniable. Just push the magic button and a military base disappears. Something that intimidating could have frightened Japan into surrender without a civilian city being destroyed.

uhhh... They had no way of knowing the 'power' of those bombs until they were dropped on those 2 medium size cities.

One would have been more than enough. And it could have been dropped not on a city, but in an isolated area.

Sometimes people don't think about the ramifications of what they do. I'm reminded of the short War Prayer story by Mark Twain that Intangible posted a link to. Powerful stuff.
