| Averting Genocide in the Nuba Mountains, Sudan For some time now, my heart has been in Africa. I have for whatever reasons, such a longing to go there. And I have such a love for so many people I have learned about from that wonderfully awesome continent. Well one of the people there is The Nuba people from the Sudan. And I have had close contact with a man who is writing a book about them, their history, their way of life. And he shares personal accounts of people he lived with there as he learned from them and loved them. The proceeds from the book, Proud to be Nuba, will help them re-establish themselves after the toll of conflict. I am excited too, because he had me help him "edit" some of the work he has done and he will be sending me the book as soon as it is published. I surely do want to also work to get it published in the States. All the same, I wanted to share an article too about The Nuba and since Sudan/Darfur continue to be in the news, this is just one more article of interest. OD THE ARTICLE | |||||||||||||||||||||

But, of course, the US can't intervene with any real forcefulness because, doing so, the US would then be considered as "occupiers" who have "violated the sovereignty" of Sudan. And we all know how well UN sanctions work in bringing about change in a country's government...i.e. - Iraq, prior to March 2003. Being the world's sole superpower kinda sucks; The US is condemned when it tries its best to bring positive change to this world...and the US is condemned when it doesn't. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| I am very proud of these people, The Nuba. They were courageous and determined. And they maintained not only their history, but their future! And what really came against them, if you don't mind me pointing it out...religion. Yup. Again. And sure, folks here might say, Islam. But mind you, a government aligned to any religion will produce the same greedy power struggle and a momentum of hatred and a will to annihilate whole people groups that do not comply. The Thai government is "aligned" to Buddhism and doesn't try to annihalate anybody. Ditto the Vatican, Israel, Ireland, Saudi, Kuwait and dozens of other countries wo are "aligned" to a reloigion but aren't in the annihalation business When did you first experience this sense of paranoia?? Ireland? What do you call their turmoil? well Gary, moving on then to my sense of paranoia...I would beg to differ with you there too. I believe it is the people that are hard and fast to a religion that think that everyone else is out to get them. That is why they look for the refuge of a theocratic government. | Gary, Isn't genocide not necessarily always killing off all the people per se but more about annihilating a people group? So that perhaps can be counted as achieved when all the people and what makes them a distinct people group is absorbed and their traditions, their culture, their religion, their uniqueness is forever lost. And what makes people allow themselves to be lost? Surely killing them, but there are other means of intimidating one to forfeit their own-ness. Raping and looting, displacement and terror threats, usurping them in matters of conviction and religious idealogy. OD | |||||||||||||||||||||
